This tiny little fruit is the cousin of the lemon. Much more sour than a lemon and half the size of a golf ball. Also called calamandin or suter in certain countries. It grows on a tree or shrub. A nice substitute for the lemon or lime. Instead of lemonade, make calamansi juice. Very refreshing on a hot summer day. It can also be found in a lot of Philippine cuisine.
I love this stuff! We sometimes juice it into soy sauce for a dip for fish.

ReplyDeletePam, they're really great. Gives dishes a little more kick than the usual lemon. I'm not sure if you can fine them in the regular supermarket, but I know you can find them in oriental ones. They sell the plants at the garden section of hardware stores or nurseries. I have a little one in my patio. Goes by the name calamandin here in the US, I believe.
