Cantaberry Smoothie

Well...here's that smoothie I mentioned I was tinkering with, when my mom made that caramelized plantains in shaved ice. Two fruits I thought that wouldn't taste good together in a smoothie. Strawberries and cantaloupe. I had that big question mark on my shoulder. Have you seen that commercial where the person enters a hardware store with a small question mark that gets bigger and bigger as they go through, not finding what they need? I felt kind of like that.

So I blend this concotion together. I added a tiny bit of sugar to give a bit of sweetness, but not too much and a lot of ice. It was particularly hot that day. To my surprise, I was worried about nothing. Oh boy, was I wrong. This was so good and refreshing that I had two tall glasses of it back to back. I felt like a water balloon was inside me.

Sometimes I make too much and I put the rest in a glass in the freezer that way I can have it later It's even better frozen. If it frozen solid, let it defrost in the fridge in the morning and by the afternoon I have myself a slushy.

Canteberry Smoothie

1 dozen strawberries
2 c cantaloupe
3 tsp sugar
lots of ice

Blend all ingredients together until smooth.

Cantaloupe and strawberries - what's not to like? I like the name of this smoothie -- sounds very British. For some reason, I kept thinking of the Bishop of Canterbury ... :)

It's a beautiful combination. I remember the utter joy and deliciousness I felt when I first combined watermelon and muskmelon. Sometimes two things come together and just blow your mind! :)

I like this combo. I always get so stuffed from smoothies too. The name sounds so fancy.

I kept thinking Canterbury Tales, too. Maybe for your next version, you could add some edible cattails and call it a Cantaberry Tail Smoothie :-P

Reeni: hehe...Thanks.

ValleyWriter: Oooo..good one. I'd hve to add that next time.

This made me think of the frozen virgin daiquiries my dad used to make us as kids. So good! Though I don't think he ever used cantaloupe in them!

Haha- I thought 'canteberry' was a possible WFW topic when I first clicked on your post! Your smoothie looks delish, but once again I'll have to take your word for it (stupid melon allergy!)

This is why I need to check out your posts as soon as I see your tweets - I just finished the last of my cantaloupe! Good reason to go out and get some more, though!
